Press Release: Team We’ve Got Your Back, Babe!

THE BEST FOR BABES
® FOUNDATION AND BREASTFEEDING USA CHALLENGE AMERICANS TO BACK BREASTFEEDING MOTHERS

Inaugural Fitness Challenge “Team We’ve Got Your Back, Babe!” Aims to support all Moms by Removing Barriers to Healthy Infant Feeding; Coincides with National Breastfeeding Month

Little Silver, NJ (July 9, 2013) – Every year, millions of Americans donate billions to find cures for diseases and cross the finish line first, while breastfeeding — one of the single most important preventative measures against infections, viruses and life-threatening illnesses for both babies and mothers – remains grossly underappreciated and lags last in the race for funding.  As a result, millions of moms suffer, struggle and are unable to meet their personal breastfeeding goals due to poor information, overwhelming barriers to breastfeeding, and a persistent lack of infrastructure.   The toll on our nation’s health, economy and planet is staggering.

Determined to put prevention first and give every mom and baby the chance to thrive, the Best for Babes® Foundation and Breastfeeding USA are launching the national Team We’ve Got Your Back, Babe!  to ensure that more mothers get individualized support and recognize and are able to overcome the barriers to breastfeeding and healthy infant feeding.

The team will be backed by Best for Babes Champion for Moms and fitness expert and author Gabby Reece and aptly reflects this year’s National Breastfeeding Month theme – “Breastfeeding Support: Close to Mothers.” Anyone who cares about the health and happiness of moms and babies can join Team We’ve Got Your Back, Babe!  (WGYBB) by joining an actual or virtual team and committing to a fun fitness goal- whether that be a walk, run, ride, stroll, golf, swim, or yoga challenge.  The event is presented by Leading Lady, a premiere nursing and intimate apparel company that is proud to go beyond the bra to support all moms in achieving their personal goals.

Best for Babes and Breastfeeding USA believe that Americans are tired of seeing expecting and new moms bombarded by misinformation, receive poor care and advice, be humiliated and harassed, and be undermined every step of the way.  “The breastfeeding cause is where the breast cancer cause was 30 years ago; in critical need of funding and awareness,” says Best for Babes’ Co-Founder, Danielle Rigg, herself a young breast cancer survivor.   “Best for Babes is rallying the public around this public health crisis, inspiring everyone to stand up for moms and babies and fight the Breastfeeding Booby Traps®.  If we put more sweat on the front end of prevention, we won’t have to put so much on the back end of the ‘cure’.   Whether you breast-fed or you didn’t, this is a cause for us ALL to get behind.”

Breastfeeding USA’s trained peer counselors help expecting and new mothers by sharing current evidence and discussing options in individualized and group settings.   “Throughout human history, breastfeeding mothers have turned to other mothers for help and support,” says Patty Jacobs, president of Breastfeeding USA.   “Our counselors focus on what women truly want and need, then strive to provide support that is free of judgment, free of misinformation, and free of undue pressure.  As a result, families feel more comfortable and confident in their choices, regardless of what those are, and are better able to navigate the new parent terrain.  Our services are free so that all mothers can get the help they need.”

Starting July 9, everyone will have the opportunity register for one of the Team We’ve Got Your Back Babe! (WGYBB) locations on the Best for Babes website.  In areas where there is no Team WGYBB, participants can join the Virtual Team WGYBB.   Members of local  teams and the virtual team will be focused on an appropriate fitness goal — run/walk, bike ride, stroll, yoga, golf, swim, or even simply a personal challenge, like walking 5 miles by summer’s end!   Team WGYBB is a part of Team Best for Babes®, which empowers individuals to reach fitness milestones in the name of the breastfeeding and human milk -the foundation of human health.

Not your ordinary fitness challenge, team members will receive Motivational and Milestone Awards geared toward getting back in shape, like Halfway There and Heaviest Load Hauled during a workout.  Gabby Reece and other Best for Babes Celebrity and Elite Athlete Champions for Moms will also be cheering and providing tips and tricks for Team WGYBB members.  Everyone who meets their fundraising and fitness goal will get the Team WGYBB shirt and a swag bag.  As part of their commitment to breastfeeding, Leading Lady is donating hundreds of nursing bras to Breastfeeding USA for distribution among their members, and in their communities. In addition, every Team WGYBB member will receive an exclusive discount from LeadingLady.com as a thank you for their support of the breastfeeding cause. To help meet the minimum fundraising goal of $200 per person, participants will also get a personal fundraising page to share their progress and passion for supporting Breastfeeding, the Mother of All Causes!  This is an opportunity to sweat for the love of moms and babies.

Participants may register at the Best for Babes website any time between July 9 and August 31, even if the culminating race or personal fitness goal occurs later.  However, all funds must be raised before October 31, 2013.
