Announcing BYOBoobz™!

FAQs about BYOBoobz(tm)
What is BYOBoobz™ ? A fun, hip & fact-filled “house party” kit with goodies and giveaways to help expecting and new parents to be inspired, prepared and empowered to make informed and healthy feeding decisions and beat the booby traps™.”  Our goal is to help moms who want to breastfeed get off to a great start, as well as give moms who can’t breastfeed information about donor breastmilk (pasteurized, screened, donated human milk from a HMBANA registered milk bank is the next best baby milk according to the World Health Organization).
Why a “house party”? Moms have been dismayed that some companies are doing “house parties” to market foods that don’t promote health for parents or children.  In a discussion on our Facebook page ( there was a strong interest for a fun home party kit that would help parents make healthy feeding and parenting decisions, BEFORE birth.   BYOBoobz™ helps women create their own peer support group BEFORE birth, which is critical to successful breastfeeding–lack of peer support is a huge booby trap!
Why is a BYOBoobz™ party so important? 1) Moms are being urged and sometimes even pressured to breastfeed but they are being set up to fail by the very institutions that should be helping them.   2)  The unethical marketing of unhealthy feeding decisions in violation of the World Health Organization Code  interferes with parents’ ability to make an informed decison and to stick with it.   Health experts have long stated that artificial baby milk is associated with an increased risk for obesity, diabetes, asthma, allergies, tooth decay, SIDS, respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, certain cancers, and adjustment and behavioral problems in children; and increased diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, breast cancer and heart disease risk in moms, and environmental experts like the National Resource Defense Council have decried the increased environmental burden from artificial feeding.  Despite overwhelming evidence, most moms are still not meeting their personal breastfeeding goals or the goals of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and it is not their fault!
Why the name “BYOBoobz™? The name was create through a brainstorm of one of our Facebook fans and Best for Babes Co-Founder Danielle Rigg, and we think it perfectly captures a spirit of fun and the need to bring breastfeeding into the mainstream so that our culture accepts, embraces and celebrates breastmilk and breastfeeding moms.  Some of the biggest “booby traps” that keep moms from achieving their personal breastfeeding goals are public disapproval, humiliation and discrimination against nursing moms.
Who is creating BYOBoobz™ and when will it be available? It will be created in an interactive process with the thousands of moms who follow us on Facebook and Twitter to make sure it meets their needs and interests.   It will be modeled in part after the “Healthy Home” party kit created by Healthy World Healthy Child, which helps parents make their homes toxin-free and create healthy environments for children.  BYOBoobz™ will be launched this fall.
What will BYOBoobz™ include? We will be working with sponsors to include fabulous goodies and giveaways, and will be including information kits to help parents get off to the best breastfeeding or breastmilk-feeding start, cheering them on, coaching them and celebrating them without pressure, judgment or guilt. We will also be putting together tools to help parents identify local resources that are truly “babe-worthy:” i.e. breastfeeding, parent and baby-friendly in alignment with our mission and credo.
