Breast implants won’t cause sagging after breastfeeding, study shows

We’ve known for a while that when it comes to sagging breasts in mothers, it’s pregnancy, not breastfeeding, that’s the culprit.    In fact, one study suggests that skin texture and appearance is actually better (more toned) in breastfeeding women.

Now, women with breast implants (breast augmentation) can also breathe a sigh of relief.  A new study of 119 women showed that breast measurements and the degree of sagging weren’t significantly different among women who breastfed and those who didn’t.  “Breast sagging, often experienced after childbirth, results from changes brought about by the pregnancy itself, not breastfeeding,” said study author Dr. Norma Cruz, a professor of plastic surgery at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in San Juan, in a press release. “Breastfeeding does not appear to further cause breasts to sag in women who’ve had breast augmentation,” she said. “Since breastfeeding improves both a mother and child’s overall health, patient education on this issue is of importance.”

In the meantime, if you’re still trying to fight gravity, we suggest a regular bra, a nursing bra, tank or camisole, or hands-free pumping support made by one of our wonderful CARE-WHO Alliance members.  Make sure you are sized properly and that you are getting the right “support”–pun intended!   🙂
